The End of A Holiday in the Sun

For those of you who have not recently visited A Holiday in the Sun, I am afraid I have some bad news; the author of A Holiday in the Sun has decided to end the blog after a short while away from the blogging world. I will be sorry to see the blog end; however he does make a very good point:

If I'm having to force myself to do it, why bother doing it at all?

As it happens, this post is my first post after a short break away from Jersey, and so I genuinely understand what he is getting at. As a blogger, you find that the more you write the more you want to write; it is only after not writing for a short while that you find you simply do not know what to write about any more. Ironically, I probably would not have posted for another week (due to sheer ‘writer’s-block’) were it not for reading A Holiday in the Sun’s last post.

Of course there are reasons to bother, but I can see what he means.

He has used his last post as a medium with which to say goodbye and to thank his readers, and he has also very kindly included links to other Jersey blogs with which readers may now read. This list included The State of Jersey for which I am grateful.

As for Fructu Non Folis Arborem Aestima; I could not agree more.

I will be sad to see the blog end; however I wish the author all the luck for the future. You can read the last post at http://aholidayinthesun.blogspot.com/2008/06/coda.html.

Well said.
AHITS was a very nicely presented blog, I'll miss it.

The blog will be missed by me and I'm sure many others.

He has inspired me and again I'm sure many others. His well researched knowledge of our current gathering of "halfwits and gangsters" and sometimes satirical but always unique way of delivering it was always second to none.

On a positive note I am pleased to know he is not disappearing from the blogscene all togather and is still active, whether it be on forums or leaving comments on blogsites such as this and mine.

P.S.

What does "Fructu Non Folis Arborem Aestima" mean?

Thanks.

Thanks for the mention Benjamin, and the good wishes everyone. Maybe at a future date I'll return in some form or other, but certainly not as a political blogger. Almost 2 years of that has been more than enough for me!

voiceforchildren, "Judge the tree by its fruit, not by its leaves". That was the original banner motto of the blog, but it seems even more appropriate in our current times.

Yeah, I'm still popping up to comment on blogs (as can be seen right now!), but I don't really bother too much with local forums anymore.

Anyway, thanks again.

And remember, you lot need to keep blogging because I need something to read during my retirement!

Its a pity that a well presented blog is ending. I don't always agree with the stance taken ,but I think we all loose when people capable of presenting a different view of the island can't continue.

Perhaps I can also add that if you, dear reader, like reading blogs do take the trouble to leave a comment once in a while. It doesn't have to be hugely insightful or complimentary, but if bloggers dont get any feedback you can't blame them for thinking the effort is too much.

There you have it AHITS; I have been blogging for a few months with relatively small numbers of comments, but when your blog is the subject matter I have six comments within two days!

Oh, and did you get the comment I submitted to your last blog post?

if you need feedback comments to help you feel you're not wasting your time, consider adding a hit counter to your page. It helps to see how many people are reading, even if only a fraction of them bother to comment.

I really loved the 'photoshop' pictures and will really miss them.
At least AHITS is still involved some way.

I know other bloggers, including myself, have had the same treatment.
Fortunatly we have moderation set up.
I suggest you do likewise Benjamin.
